Certificate in Theological Studies (CTS)

This post-baccalaureate certificate provides you with a general university-level foundation in Christian studies. It may provide academic background for those applying to a masters program. The certificate can be earned through coursework alone, online or in-person, and is flexible and accessible to students in full-time employment. This certificate is awarded conjointly with the University of Toronto.

Goals

Provide you with an introduction to the core disciplines of theology—including scripture, church history, and systematic theology—to support academic and personal exploration of the Christian tradition.

Equip you with the academic background and critical thinking skills needed to pursue further studies in theology or related fields, such as Master of Divinity or Master of Theological Studies programs.

Offer a part- or full-time academic path, online or in-person, that accommodates the needs of working professionals and adult learners seeking meaningful engagement with theological education.

If you enter with some previous coursework in theological or religious studies, the program adviser may waive the above course requirements in favour of a substitute course. Certificate students are not permitted to take graduate-level courses (numbered in the 5000s and 6000s).
