Diploma in Eastern Christian Studies

Discover a broad theological, historical and pastoral grounding in the Eastern Christian tradition. This is a flexible program that can be done on a full- or part-time basis and must be pursued while registered in a conjoint degree program. 

Goals

To provide a broad theological, historical, and pastoral grounding in the Eastern Christian tradition.

To offer a foundation in the New and Old Testament and in Easter Christian theology.

To allow you to gain a broad perspective in Eastern Christianity through the lenses of theology, history, liturgy and spirituality.

Certificate in Eastern Christian Studies

The Sheptytsky Institute, within the RSM Faculty of Theology, offers primarily university degree programs in Eastern Christian Studies, and must be pursued while registered in a conjoint degree program. 

At this level, there are two professional (pastorally oriented) basic degrees: M.Div. and M.T.S., with an emphasis on Eastern Christianity. Sheptytsky Institute professors teach in four general areas of specialization: Spirituality-Doctrine, Liturgical Studies, Historical Studies and Ecumenism and Eastern Christianity. 

Some courses are offered online. 

The Certificate in Eastern Christian Studies consists of seven (7) courses of which two (2) shall be considered required courses: (Foundations of Eastern Christian Theology SMT1104H and General Introduction to the Eastern Churches SMJ161HF). 

The remaining five (5) courses shall be chosen from amongst other Eastern Christian courses at the TST from the following four (4) categories: theology, history, liturgy, and spirituality. At least one course must be taken from each category.
